Banda Aceh, November 20, 2025 —The Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), organized a workshop entitled “The Likelihood of Peace Agreements – Practical Example of Survival Analysis” on Monday, November 17, 2025. The workshop took place at the FMIPA USK Building, Room E.03.08, and began at 10:00 a.m.
The workshop featured Cornelius Haritz, a PhD student at GIGA (German Institute of Global and Area Studies), Germany, as the main speaker. The event aimed to enhance participants’ analytical skills, particularly in applying survival analysis methods to real-world case studies, focusing on the analysis of the likelihood and duration of peace agreements.
In his presentation, Cornelius Haritz introduced the fundamental concepts of survival analysis and highlighted its relevance in social and political research. Through a practical and interactive approach, participants were guided to understand how statistical methods can be used to analyze the time until an event occurs, using peace agreements as a case study. The session enabled participants to follow the analytical process in a clear and structured manner.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for direct discussion between participants and the speaker regarding the application of survival analysis to real data. This activity broadened participants’ perspectives on the use of statistics beyond conventional fields such as health and economics, extending to conflict and peace studies.
Through this workshop, the Department of Statistics FMIPA USK expects students and participants to gain valuable applied academic experience and a deeper understanding of the role of statistics in addressing multidisciplinary issues at the global level.
