Banda Aceh, November 3, 2025 —The Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), held a guest lecture entitled “Actuarial Lecture: The Role of Statistics in Determining Motor Vehicle Insurance Premiums in Indonesia” on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The event took place at the FMIPA USK Building, rooms E.03.03 and E.03.04, and was attended by students and lecturers of the Department of Statistics FMIPA USK.
The guest lecture featured Dr. Aceng Komarudin Mutaqin, M.T., M.Si., a lecturer in Statistics at FMIPA, Universitas Islam Bandung, as the keynote speaker. The event was officially opened by the Head of the Department of Statistics FMIPA USK, Prof. Dr. Zurnila Marli Kesuma, S.Si., M.Si., who emphasized the importance of actuarial statistics as a strategic competence for Statistics graduates, particularly in meeting the demands of the insurance industry.
In his presentation, Dr. Aceng explained the fundamental role of statistics in the process of determining motor vehicle insurance premiums in Indonesia. The discussion covered various aspects, including claim data analysis, risk assessment, and the application of statistical models to estimate fair and sustainable insurance premiums. The material was delivered in a systematic and practical manner, enabling participants to easily grasp both theoretical concepts and their real-world applications.
In addition to the theoretical session, the guest lecture also included a hands-on practice session. Participants were guided through practical premium calculation procedures using statistical approaches, providing them with a clearer understanding of how statistical concepts taught in the classroom are applied in the insurance industry.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion session and ended with a group photo involving the speaker, department leadership, lecturers, and students. This guest lecture is expected to broaden students’ insights and strengthen the linkage between statistical theory and professional practice, particularly in the fields of actuarial science and insurance.
