Banda Aceh, August 16, 2025 — The Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Syiah Kuala University (USK), once again held its annual Academic and Character Development Program for New Students (PAKARMARU) on Friday, August 16, 2025, at the FMIPA USK Theater Room. This event aimed to introduce new Statistics students to both the academic and non-academic environments within the department. Through PAKARMARU, students are encouraged to understand and embrace USK’s academic culture, regulations, and the core values that shape the university’s identity.

In her welcoming remarks, Prof. Dr. Zurnila Marli Kesuma, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the Department of Statistics, emphasized that PAKARMARU is an annual tradition designed to warmly welcome incoming students. The program serves as a platform for new students to get to know alumni, faculty members, and staff more closely. She also highlighted the importance of maintaining academic integrity, discipline, and enthusiasm for learning from the very beginning of their studies. “New students must be able to adapt to the challenging academic environment while taking advantage of every opportunity to develop themselves — both academically and through organizational activities,” she stated.

The 2025 PAKARMARU featured presentations on academic systems, curriculum structure, and the various support services available in the Department of Statistics. Students were also introduced to the Statistics Student Association (HIMASTA) and received practical tips and insights from senior students on how to navigate university life and develop their talents — both in academic and non-academic pursuits.

The event was filled with enthusiasm, reflected in the active participation of new students during discussions and Q&A sessions. A warm sense of camaraderie emerged as students began interacting with one another, building networks, and fostering a shared sense of belonging as members of the Department of Statistics, FMIPA USK family.
